A peaceful morning starts the night before 🌙

Why picking out clothes together does so much more than just save time.

Does this sound familiar? The alarm goes off, everyone has to get out the door on time, and then it startsâ€Ļ

“Mommy, where are my favorite pants?”

“I don’t want to wear this sweater!”

“But I don’t know what to do!”

And before you know it, the day begins with a rush, frustration, and maybe even tears.

Even though we all really want the same thing: to start the day off on a pleasant and relaxed note.

What if just a brief moment in the evening could bring so much more peace?

Small Choices, Big Impact

To us as adults, choosing clothes might seem like a very small thing. But for children, it can actually be a big decision.

Which pants are comfortable? Which sweater do I want to wear? Is this appropriate for the weather? And what if my favorite shirt is in the wash?

Children have to process an overwhelming number of stimuli and choices throughout the day. This is especially true in the morning, when they’re still waking up and are often expected to do all sorts of things.

By laying out their clothes together the night before, you’ll eliminate one decision-making moment from the morning.

And that can provide just that little bit of extra peace of mind.

Predictability provides a sense of security

Children often like to know what's going to happen.

When the clothes are already laid out, part of the next morning is already taken care of. Your child knows what they’re going to wear and doesn’t have to think about it anymore.

That predictability can help make the morning more organized.

Children who are sensitive to stimuli, have difficulty with transitions, or like to be in control can benefit from this in particular.

It’s a small piece of structure that can provide support.

Making your own choices builds self-confidence

And you know what might be the best part of all?

You can get your child involved!

For example, let your child choose between two outfits. This gives them the freedom to make their own decisions without overwhelming them with too many choices.

“Do you want to wear your blue sweater or that green one tomorrow?”

Your child gets to contribute ideas, feels involved, and at the same time practices making decisions on their own.

And the next morning?

Then everything will be ready, and your child might even be able to get dressed a little on their own.

How great is that!

A nice little moment together

Picking out clothes doesn't have to be a quick task you squeeze in between other things.

Make it a little evening ritual instead.

Let's take a moment to think about tomorrow together. What are we going to do? Is it a school day? Are we going to play outside? Is it going to get cold?

This way, you're not only preparing your child practically, but also mentally, for the next day.

And maybe that brief moment will even lead to a nice little conversation.

It doesn't have to be perfect

Of course, this doesn't mean that every morning suddenly goes off without a hitch.

Sometimes your child wants to wear something different the next morning after all. Sometimes a sock doesn't fit right, or that one sweater is suddenly no longer a favorite.

And that's okay.

The goal isn't to have everything under control, but to make the morning just a little easier and more peaceful.

Because sometimes peace of mind doesn't come from big changes, but rather from small habits.

So give it a try tonight.

Lay out the clothes together, let your child take the lead a little, and see what they come up with for your morning.

It might save you five extra minutes.

But perhaps it gives your child something even more valuable: a peaceful start to the day. 🤍
